#CruiseClub #026 – Collateral (2004)
Rarely in his career does Tom Cruise play a villain, which is part of what makes Collateral so special. The other special part: this movie rules! Joining us to talk about Michael Mann’s film is Tobin Addington of The Contenders podcast. In this episode, we talk about Cruise’s ability to blend into the background, the seemingly arbitrary distinction between Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, and what could have been done to give the film’s female characters a bit more to do. We also wonder if Collateral (at long last) offers a true challenger to Gone in Sixty Seconds‘s (to date) undisputed title of “Best Movie Cops.” In the epic battle of Delroy Lindo and Timothy Olyphant vs. Peter Berg and Mark Ruffalo, who ya got? Taking all bets!
