2 Fast 2 Forever #074 – Two-Lane Blacktop (1971)
As we continue to kick it old school this lap, we’re taking our first detour to a pit stop with 1971’s Two-Lane Blacktop, a movie picked for us by Ben Milliman over on our Patreon! If you’ve never seen this cult classic (watch it! it’s a Criterion release!), you could think about Two-Lane Blacktop as, in a way, Race Wars: The Movie. (Except, also, not at all.) In this episode, we follow James Taylor and Dennis Wilson as they race across the country in a beautiful 1955 Chevy Bel-Air coupe. Ain’t nothin’ more old school than that! We also dive deep into Richard Linklater’s love for the movie, its many Fast-nections, and also spend way too much time (again) trying to figure out what Hector’s doing in The Fast and the Furious. (Movie conversation begins around 1:06:30.)
Visit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. Extra special shout-out to Ben Milliman, Jake Freer, Alex Elonen, and Nick Burris for joining at the “Interpol’s Most Wanted” level or above!
