Watch The Theron #038 – Dark Places (2015)
It’s 2015. Fresh off the success of Gone Girl, another Gillian Flynn adaptation, Dark Places, is released. That’s where the similarities end. After David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl grossed more than $360 million worldwide in theaters, Dark Places was relegated straight to VOD and was met by “generally unfavorable reviews.” We’re merely one week from Mad Max: Fury Road, and to force us to swallow this bitter pill (which also stars Nicholas Hoult!) before we ride shiny and chrome into Valhalla just feels cruel. Charlize is, predictably, one of the best parts of this movie, but the rest is bleak and uninspired.
