#HANX for the Memories #013 – Dragnet (1987)
We stayed up all night and went to sleep watching Dragnet. Were the Beastie Boys rapping about the TV series or this movie? Who can never be sure? Regardless, in this episode we’re talking about the 1987 Dan Aykroyd/Tom Hanks cop comedy Dragnet. Joined in spirit (but not on this episode) by Mike Flynn, we talk about Dan Aykroyd’s deadpan delivery, his and Hanks’s shared Donna Dixon connection, and whether or not this film’s depiction of women is more positive or negative. (It’s the 1980s, so we’re off to a bad start, but there’s some unexpected characterization that feels refreshing!) We’re pivoting toward an uptick in Tom Hanks movies, and it couldn’t come quickly enough.
