#HANX for the Memories #012 – Every Time We Say Goodbye (1986)
Every Time We Say Goodbye isn’t Tom Hanks’s worst movie so far, but it’s certainly his most milquetoast. When will this trend end? In what may wind up being our shortest episode of #HANX for the Memories, we debate whether or not Hanks’s dramatic chops are working in this movie, and struggle to come up with things to discuss as we long for a version of this Romeo and Juliet story that is even remotely interesting. We also pull out the proverbial Calendar of Hanks once again to find out how many more movies we have until we get to his unimaginable string of greatness (spoiler: too many!) and wonder what movies between now and then will offer us a respite. Tom Hanks, if you ever read this, I’m sorry. We love you. We just don’t love these early movies.
