#BoyfriendMaterial #006 – Lost River (2014)
Ryan Gosling isn’t in Lost River, but he wrote and directed it, so it’s a perfect inclusion within the realm of #BoyfriendMaterial! The only question: is it any good? And, related, another question: should you watch it? By weaving three stories into one, Big Daddy Gos examines the housing market collapse and the desolation and destruction of a small town, all (possibly?) through the lens of a fable or fairy tale. No characters have real names, but each knows the rest, and each intertwine in ways that frustrate one Joe and work for the other. Also in this episode, Joey talks about how he and his sister saw this movie in theaters following a (very brief) introduction from Ryan Gosling himself, which is maybe why Joey likes this movie a lot more than Joe Two does. Then again, maybe not. Also: there are underwater dinosaurs.
